I love people and connecting with people from all walks of life. What I have learned throughout the years is that it really helps when we begin to learn a little something about others. I have always tried my best to learn a little something from each culture that I deal with. For instance, I try to learn a little greeting from various ethnic groups I encounter.
After many years of learning, I have accumulated greetings in 13 to 14 languages. The important thing is not how many languages I have learned but what I have found out is that when I show an attempt to greet the person in their language or learn a little something about their culture, it opens many doors for me and gives an extra bonus to helping me with my rapport with my new friend or client. I have connected with people at a much deeper level by making an effort to learn more about them and trying to understand them more from their own context and perspectives.
In a world of duality, there is too much of this we against them mentality. We see this everywhere from the rich versus the poor; religion versus mysticism; one sport team versus another; good versus evil, etc. However, if we stop thinking from our dysfunctional ego, and think more from the perspective of us as a collective group or consciousness, we may be able to start being the pioneers of change for our future in creating more unity and harmony in the world.
One huge change I would love to see is the coming together of religions and mysticism in the world. I believe it is healthy for people from a particular religion to start learning more about how others believe, worship, pray, have devotion or meditate. As we begin to learn more about others and show an interest in them and their beliefs, the more ethnocentricity and an ego driven society begin to dissolve. When this happens, the unity and harmony that is generated will lead to a more enlightend civilization. Let’s be the change we want to see in the world so that we can all realize that we are all special and unique but are part of one Divine family and one Divine Consciousness.
